Final day of our trip – in NYC

So yesterday we finished our trip around the world from our home in Chessington.

We finished off by visiting New York City, mainly as Kirk wanted takeaway pizza at some point this week. It’s is takeaway of choice whereas mine is Indian.

We started our day with pancakes and blueberry compote. You can’t “visit” America and not have American pancakes. I always ensure I have pancakes one day on every trip we do in America.

I also decided I should add a small amount of peanut butter. As during our last trip to the USA in February I had a waffle with peanut butter chips. I also managed to buy a packet of peanut butter chips to bring home. However I have since eaten those – on Pancake day!

Recipe

    300g self-raising flour
    1 tsp baking powder
    1 tbsp caster sugar
    2 medium eggs
    300ml milk
  1. Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl until smooth
  2. Heat a splash of oil and a small knob of butter in a non-stick frying pan until sizzling.
  3. Add spoonfuls of batter to make pancakes the size you like. Cook until bubbles start to form on the surface, then flip and cook the other side.
  4. Top with your topping of choice

It wouldn’t be a trip to New York without seeing a broadway show. Luckily this weekend we were able to stream the theatre production of Cats through YouTube.

An odd show – can imagine it works far better in the theatre as it’s definitely more about the theatricals than the story line. Glad we finally watched it though as I’ve heard so many good things about it. I’m sure my parents went to see it at the theatre when I was still a kid.

There are so many musicals you could watch. They don’t have to be a theatre production of it.

  • Phantom of the opera
  • West side story
  • Hamilton (coming to Disney+ July 3)
  • Billy Elliot
  • Rita
  • Wind in the willows

We’d planned for yesterday to be a movie and games day so we played on the Xbox for a bit. UFC fighting game.

Kirk gave up pretty quickly as I kept winning.

We’re currently working our way through top 100 movies to watch list. There are lots of scratch off posters for these. We’ve collated a compilation of these for our own list. Though not 100. Most of the films we have on there are classics. Trainspotting which we watched the other day is on there.

So today we decided to tick off American Psycho.

This is a really good film – definitely a film that makes you question things and really think about it. It’s down as a horror but I’d put it down more as a psychological thriller.

We ordered pizza from Pizza Hutt – we usually order from Dominos however they’ve reduced their menu so we went with Pizza Hut.

The second film we set out to watch was Goodfellas. Then we realised it was Eurovision night and it’s an annual tradition to watch this so we ended our trip early – flew back to the UK and landed on our sofas in time to watch the vote for the best Eurovision song of all time.

So we watched Goodfellas this morning to make up for it.

This was a really good film! Worth a watch. I never knew it was based on a true story.
